  1. Yes, Kim, we all remember when you wrote that piece of music for Vertigo. Alfred Hitchcock heaped so much praise on your inventive composition skills. How DARE they steal it from you!

  2. It’s a bizarre response to be sure, but that particular piece of music by Bernard Hermann is inextricably identified with ‘Vertigo’.
In ‘The Artist’, I recognized it immediately and it jarred me. An iconic mid-century piece of music in a 1930’s period film. The exact same piece of music was also used in the first episode of the new series ‘An American Horror Story’. In both cases, the productions used music that while extremely beautiful, felt out of place and trnsplanted into it’s new context and felt wrong.

I understand Kim Novak’s feelings, after all the piece has the alternate title, ‘Madeline’s theme’. But the estate of Bernard Hermann regularly pimps out his music without thought to it’s use and the real mistake is with the music directors for the film. It was a poor choice, and indeed felt like a violation of some sort, but the rape description is a bit far.

I admit I have always loved Kim Novak and personally identlify that music with her performance in Vertigo, so I can’t fault her for being impassioned.

  3. Having been raped, I can honestly say that this situation probably not nearly as bad as she’s making out…

    Also…

    I’d hit it…

    …….in the face with a brick…

    • You’re lying. There’s no way that actual rape done to an actual person by an actual rapist can ever compare to something like this. We’re talking about SHOW BUSINESS here! There’s nothing more important. Kim Novak was in a movie that came out 53 years ago, for Pete’s sake! And that movie featured some music that was then used in a new movie! It’s pretty self-explanatory.
Maybe more exclamation points will help you understand??!!!!

      • You’re right…

        This is MUCH more traumatizing…

After all… I was only technically a virgin when it happened… and her vision was… well…

YOU JUST DON’T GET THAT KIND OF INSPIRATION MORE THAN ONCE!!!

        *cough*

        I <3 you Bronc…

  4. People throw the word “rape” around too casually these days. It’s a powerful word, and people are just raping the impact of that word. Please stop raping the use of the word, or rape will be raped of it raping meaning, God rape it.
